Thinking back to this day a year ago, my heart both rejoices and shudders. Remembering the tortuous labor that lasted several hours, but which ended with a beautiful baby boy whom we named Joshua. I remember seeing his face for the first time and looking at his dark curly hair with wonderment. He was much smaller than the predicted nine pounds when he weighed in at 6 pounds 13 ounces.
And just like that, a year has flown by and we celebrated Josh’s 1st birthday party on Saturday!
Due to several food intolerances of friends and family members, we decided to keep it simple and grill hotdogs and hamburgers. It was a perfect spring day for barbecuing!
Many family members brought side dishes which was a huge help!
Praying over the food, and thanking God for giving us this little boy!
After lunch, we served cupcakes and ice cream. Everyone gathered around to sing “Happy Birthday” to Josh. As you can see, he didn’t really like that very much!
So I started shoving frosting in his mouth (first time he’s had frosting) and before we knew it, we had a happy boy again!
Our backyard isn’t that big, but the kids had a fun time playing back there!
All in all, the party was a lot of fun and we think everyone had a good time! Josh made it through the day on two short naps also, so that was a relief. He was asleep for part of his party but thankfully not for most or all of it.
