July Happenings

I’m dealing with a little bit of scrambled egg brain right now due to lack of sleep. I don’t think I’d be sitting here looking at my computer at all if it hadn’t been for the Keurig this morning (love my Keurig!). Let’s just say Josh has not been sleeping the best lately. Both me and the hubs are exhausted today. So I don’t have anything profound to say, just some “firsts” that have happened with Josh that I want to remember later on.

The State Fair.

Josh went to his first state fair (or fair of any kind) last week! Josh and I met up with my family around 10:30 am and my husband took some time off work that day and arrived around 1:30 pm. We got to look at the exhibits, eat some English Toffee, and look at farm animals. Josh pretty much snoozed most of the day away in the stroller. My mother found (much to my relief) a mother’s nursing room, which was awesome because I have a lot of anxiety about nursing in public (sometimes I feel like I am wrestling with Josh under those nursing covers and it drives me nuts!). We left around 4 pm and I’m glad we left when we did because Josh cried the entire trip home (he normally loves being in the car).

4 Month Photos by Mom.

A dear friend of mine took pictures of Josh with many fun props and outfits. I haven’t received them yet but I’m looking forward to seeing them! On Josh’s exact 4 month birthday though, I took Josh out to the backyard and decided to try taking some shots with my camera. I have this nice camera and barely know how to use it! One of these days I’ll read the tutorial and actually learn how to use the settings properly. Josh cooperated by not crying but I only got one shot of him smiling, which I unfortunately permanently shrank the file in order to send to my sister overseas. So I am not posting that one because it would either be really tiny or extremely grainy!

4 Month Check-up & Vaccines.

Last week Josh had his check up with his pediatrician. Several people have mentioned to me that Josh has a really “flat head” — and they are right. He does have a flat head! The kid just loves to be on his back. He’s gotten really good at tummy time but he still doesn’t prefer it and likes to sleep on his back. I began to research “flat head syndrome” and got mildly freaked out that I had missed the window of time to really correct it, even at only 4 months. I even ordered a special pillow (think: Mini boppy) called the Baby Moon pillow for his head to rest on when he’s on his back playing or in the swing. When I asked the pediatrician about it, he said Josh was fine and that I didn’t need to worry about it– it would correct itself once Josh rolls over more and can sit up and spend more time off of the back of his head. So that was good news!

Josh had a rough time with vaccines and it ended up being a huge blessing that we didn’t go camping last weekend. Pretty sure it was the oral Rotovirus vaccine that was causing him grief (not to mention that he’s got a second tooth coming in). He has had long, intense crying episodes at least once a day since he got the vaccines last Wednesday, and he always straightens out his legs and acts like his tummy is hurting. Thankfully he hasn’t had any vomiting or diarrhea like some babies can have with the Rotovirus vaccine. I know almost all kids under 5 get the Rotovirus (which comes with severe vomiting and diarrhea) so I’m glad he got the vaccine, but the past 6 days have not been fun. I hate to see him so miserable.

Josh weighed 13# 13.8 oz and was 25 1/4 inches long. His OFC was 17 inches. 15th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for head!

Josh takes being weighed very seriously, every time!

Haircut.

My hair was falling out and what was left was broken off because Josh kept pulling on it. So my hubby tells me I got my mom haircut. I kind of like it now. I don’t have any good pictures so the one below is lame but it will have to do.

Josh’s First Swim.

Josh “swam” (i.e. sat) in a baby pool for the first time at his cousin’s house two weekends ago. But he went into a big pool at my friend Katherine’s place last Friday. I went a little overboard and bought swim glasses (they were too small–the kid’s got a big head), a washable swim diaper (it was too big), a baby swimming outfit (thankfully at least it fit!), as well as Babyganics sunblock. Folks, this was all for 20 minutes in the pool! (Does this mamma sound a little like a worrier?) I think he had fun splashing a little and watching the other kids play in the water. Best of all, he didn’t get sunburned, which was what I was most worried about with this hot weather. I don’t have a picture in the pool (bad mommy) but I did get a picture of his little swim outfit.

Other Happenings.

Lastly, here’s some random pictures from various days and times over the past two weeks. So many fun times with this kiddo!
